How we work

Custom software is a significant investment, so our process keeps it simple and predictable. One clear agreement, a fixed price, and progress you can see from start to finish.

  1. Understanding your business

    Free initial consultation

We start by learning how your organisation runs today: who does what, where the information lives, and what's getting in the way. From that we suggest the most practical way forward within your budget, designed to grow with you.

  2. Agreeing the project

    Project Agreement

We put everything into one clear, concise Project Agreement: what we'll build, the fixed price and the timescale. No lengthy documents to wade through, just a plain summary you can read in one sitting and sign off with confidence.

  3. Building your application

    Progress you can see

We build to the agreement, with access to a private test version throughout so you can try things out and give feedback long before launch. If your priorities change along the way, we'll agree any changes with you before they happen.

  4. Launch and support

    Maintenance Agreement

We move your data across, launch the system and make sure your team is comfortable using it. We arrange hosting through a trusted hosting partner and manage it on your behalf, and an annual Maintenance Agreement covers backups, fixes and an agreed service level, with room for enhancements as your needs change.

Common questions

What kind of projects do you take on?

Our focus is custom web applications with a database behind them, and the web APIs that connect them to other systems. We also build brochure and ecommerce websites. We take on a limited number of projects at a time so each one gets proper attention.

How much does a custom application cost?

It depends on what the system needs to do. After the free consultation we can usually give you a realistic range, and the Project Agreement then fixes the price before any building starts.

Who owns the finished software and data?

Your data is always yours. Ownership of the finished application is set out plainly in the Project Agreement, so there are no surprises later.

What technology do you use?

Our custom applications and APIs are built on Microsoft ASP.NET with SQL Server, a proven, secure platform used by organisations of every size. It's well suited to business systems that need to be reliable, perform well and be supported for years to come.

Can you build or connect to web APIs?

Yes, it's one of our specialities. We build secure APIs that let your data feed websites, mobile apps and partners, and we integrate with third-party APIs for payments, accounting, shipping and more.

Can you work with our existing data and systems?

Yes. We regularly import data from spreadsheets and older databases, and connect new applications to the services you already rely on.

Can you take over a system someone else built?

Often, yes. We'll review the existing application, tell you honestly what state it's in, and recommend whether to maintain, improve or rebuild it.

Do you build simpler websites too?

Yes. We build brochure websites with a simple editor so you can update your own pages, news and images, and full ecommerce shops when you need to sell online.

Do you work with WordPress?

Yes. For brochure websites, WordPress is often a sensible, cost-effective choice, and we build, set up and renovate WordPress sites so you can easily manage your own content. Where a project needs custom programming, such as a database application, an API or bespoke features, we build it on Microsoft ASP.NET instead, which is better suited to business systems.

Do you provide hosting?

Yes. We arrange hosting through a trusted hosting partner and handle the setup, domains and day-to-day management, so you have one point of contact for everything.

Do you work with clients outside your area?

Yes. Most of our work is managed remotely through calls, screen-sharing and the private test site, so location isn't a barrier.
